Layering. Yes, I know it’s becoming warmer and you’re wondering why in the world anyone would want to put on more clothes than they have to. Trust me, you’ll be fine. I want to show you the proper way to layer clothing so you won’t look like you’re trying to fit in at Abu Dhabi when trying to be fashionable. So since it is still spring and you haven’t brought out all your summer clothes yet, let’s start with simple jeans and layered top. In the picture above, I have on a loose summer tank top underneath a light weight sweater. Notice I have the sleeves rolled a bit to make the outfit more cool. The trick to layering is always have the top layer brushing your hip. If you wear something long over something longer you will look two inches tall, and I would hate for that to happen. With the top layer coming about to the hip it adds height (and in my case, so do the wedges). Now when layering a dress or skirt, still keep the top layer length rule but add a “flowy” skirt or dress underneath. Yes, you can continue layering all summer because despite common belief you will NOT die of a heat stroke if you add a light layer. I think if you try this tip out, you will really enjoy the flattering look it creates.

MAXImize Your Style
It’s maxi time!! By “maxi” I mean maxi-dresses, these are oh so fun to wear during spring. There is only one problem, “What shoes do I wear so I don’t look short and stubby?!”, I cannot tell you how many times I get asked this question. So here it goes… what shoes to wear with what length. When wearing a maxi, always be careful about the length. If you are planning to wear flats or sandals with it then buy the dress that brushes the top of your foot, this way you won’t look like you are flooding. If you are wanting to dress it up and wear heels or wedges then buy the dress to barely sweep the floor so when putting it on with the wedges, the dress hits at about the middle of the heel itself. Never buy the dress completely covering your feet and dragging the ground because no matter how many times you tell yourself that you will find shoes that work… you won’t! There are a few dresses that are in between that can be worn with both, these are the ones that almost sweeps the floor but not quite. I tend to buy these more often because I never know what shoes I am planning on wearing. Now that you know the down low on maxi’s.. go try it. You’ll be in love (not to mention that they are great when you haven’t fully developed your sun kissed look yet)!
Making Spring Happen
What in the world do you wear when it is 35 degrees in March?! Living in the South with this bipolar weather can be difficult when trying to dress for spring yet, stay warm. I am going to give you a few pointers on how to accomplish this extremely difficult task. One thing I like to do is wear a neutral colored shirt that I may have hanging in my closet for winter and put it on with a pair of colored pants. For example, a grey long sleeve blouse with orchid pants and grey flats to bring the colors together. If you’re totally afraid of the colored pants then wear jeans with a spring top and throw on a cardigan. With more dressy attire you can always pair the cute spring dress you found and couldn’t resist with a pair of warm colored leggings and blazer. Also, don’t run away from the bright pink flats that you could pair with a winter outfit because those are so useful. Hopefully you’ve gotten at least one tip from me that you can apply to your spring wardrobe. Good luck!
Grab It and Go!
It’s that time again… another week, another blog! This week I want to share with you the popular handbag choice for the year. As simple as it sounds, the must-have handbag is a single strap shoulder bag. The size may differ but these purses are great to carry out to dinner at night or even with your everyday lifestyle. I personally like the one in the picture above because it is big enough for practicality but the style is also perfect! Don’t worry so much about matching the colors exactly to the purse, just throw it on your shoulder and go, it will be FABULOUS!
Open to Orchid
So who wants to hear about the color of the year?!? Okay so, I don’t know if I am the only one but I am always so excited to hear what the color of the year is. In the females favor, it’s ORCHID! This is such a pretty color and can match oh so many things. I want to tell you my favorite colors to match radiant orchid with and maybe you might like a few of them. As you can see in the picture, I have paired orchid jeans with a beige blouse. But as you look into the zebras on the shirt, there are many more color options. My favorite is navy, green, black, taupe, yellow, blue, sea foam, and purple. See… you can go crazy with these color options. Dress up and add orchid, always.
Tone on Tone
Yes.. I said “tone on tone”. It has become extremely fashionable to wear different tones of the same color all together. For instance, women, you may wear a light gray blouse with charcoal color pants and slate grey shoes. I promise it will look fabulous! For men, you may wear a navy button down under a faded blue pullover and jeans. Now carry the tone on tone a little farther and wear striped blue socks with loafers or oxfords. Watch out Adam Levine.. You’ve got competition. Take my advice, give it a try and you won’t regret it.
Cropping into Spring
It’s that time again.. SPRING! A personal favorite of mine is to wear crop jeans in the spring because it’s cool enough to wear during the day, yet, warm enough to wear in the evening. This is such a cute style but is done poorly many times so I want to show you the proper way to wear these crop pants. For women, you want the cuff on your jeans to be about one inch in width, give or take a little. Roll them just enough to come to the bend of your ankle. You don’t want the jeans to be to “bunchy”, but also don’t want them to look like you’re “flooding”. Cropping jeans this way extends and slims the legs.. YAY! Now for men it is a different story, if a man is going to roll his jeans it has to be done perfect or people will stare. Like the women, roll your jeans about one inch in width but instead of coming to the bend of the ankle, you want them to come just above the floor. Show about an inch of shoe under the jeans. If a man can roll his jeans this way, he is a keeper. Crop jeans are the best jeans.
